Spring is here! Well, it feels that way at least. As the days warm up and get longer, we are busy completing projects on the homestead. Unfortunately that means there’s been less time to record all the excitement here on the blog, and I missed posting an update last Friday. Sorry! Here’s an update on the past couple of weeks.
Farm to Fork Loudoun
It’s official, we are participating in Farm to Fork Loudoun this year! This event from July 23rd through August 2nd pairs local farms with area restaurants to highlight local food. Look for our products to be featured at several area restaurants through this event.
Rabbits!
Oh my, we have rabbits. Last Friday Harley went down to Virginia Beach to get 11 new rabbits from Worcestershire Rabbitry.
These additions give us a lot of new bloodlines, and add the rare chocolate and lilac colors to our rabbitry! We now have Silver Fox rabbits in four colors. We look forward to offering breeding stock that expands the Silver Fox genetics in Northern Virginia.
Eggs
We are happy to report that the chickens are laying more and more each day! There were some dark days in February where we were getting barely any eggs, but now the hens are redeeming themselves. We are getting more eggs now than we ever have before.
The recent addition of around 40 Red Sex Links that are just starting to lay is giving the egg count a bit of a boost. We’re getting just a few eggs a day from that group, but I expect they’ll all be laying within a few weeks. If you need eggs, Contact Us and we’ll coordinate a time for you to swing by! Maybe you’d like to buy some farm fresh eggs when you’re here buying chicks to start your own laying flock! We still have some chicks available, but they are getting reserved pretty quickly.
Dawn is breaking, and it’s time to go feed the livestock. Thanks for stopping by, and come by again soon for another update!
