We’ve had hens laying for about 4 months now and wanted to share a chart of our egg production. Our expectations were certainly different than what the results ended up being. The variation in egg production from day to day was a surprise to us, as well as the relatively low numbers of eggs given the number of hens. Our laying flock consisted primarily of Buff OrpingtonĀ and Americaunas. The blue line is the brown eggs which could come from our buff orpingtons and a couple red sexlinks, a dark brahma, and a couple golden lace wyandottes. The red line would be from the Americaunas, and the orange line is from some Leghorns which are still not laying regularly.
Hopefully these numbers are useful to you in understanding how your flock is laying. We have seen a significant drop in production as we came into winter. This last week two of our golden lace wyandottes just started laying and the buff orpingtons seemed to have kicked it up a bit as well.
We’d love to hear about your experiences with egg production and how they relate to what we’ve seen over our first 4 months or so.
