As we enjoy the cooler fall weather and prepare for winter, there have been a lot of fun happenings on the farm!
Whiskey found a butternut squash from a volunteer plant that must’ve grown from compost.
Apparently butternut squash is Whiskey’s idea of a dog treat!
We have also seen several walking sticks around.
The chickens have continued to enjoy free ranging all around the property. You’ll never know where you’ll find a chicken!
The chickens aren’t the only animals ranging around…
The hogs have also provided plenty of amusement. Here the male, Alaska, cools off on a warmer day by taking a dunk in the waterer!
The rabbits are finally full grown, which means they’re ready to breed. Allspice, the buck, provided stud services for the first time. Once he figured out head from tail, he did great! We’re expecting our first rabbit kits in mid-November, and another batch at the beginning of December.
We were able to enjoy some fall cuisine, as well, including George Washington’s Favorite Dessert: custard baked inside a pumpkin. We picked up a pumpkin from a local farm during Loudoun County’s Fall Farm Tour, which we plan on being a part of next year.
We hope you have had an enjoyable fall, and that you’re ready for winter!
