After getting these pygmy goats, we decided we were going to put them to work clearing land. The challenge was what kind of fence can be moved around forested areas and holds in goats? We decided on cattle panels because they’re sturdy and inexpensive. Plus we had some pieces of cattle panels that came with the goats. We bought 4 16 ft panels, and attached them together with carabiners.
Of course the grass inside the pen wasn’t good enough, and both goats immediately started reaching through the bottom holes to eat grass outside the pen. Then Ash’s horns became stuck in the fence. Sorry there are no pictures of this- it was a little hectic. We knew this could very well happen, we were hoping it wouldn’t. Interestingly Jethro’s horns are shaped differently, and he was always able to get his head back through the fence.
To fix the problem, we lined the panels with chicken wire. So far this has kept the goats’ heads in! It’s also allowed us to put hens in the pen, too!
How easy is it to move to a new location?
