Today we found out that a neighbor living in the suburbs needed help relocating a couple chickens they were raising. Like many of us they were excited to have the chance to have healthy, fresh, quality eggs, but they quickly realized the trouble with modern suburban living. One of their “hens” ended up being a rooster and it became impossible to hide the fact of their two chickens from the local HOA and other neighbors. We were able to get in touch and take their two chickens into our flock. It worked out really well because all of our 18 chickens ended up being hens so we were in need of a rooster!
We drove the new birds home and put them into our little green chicken tractor within the larger chicken yard so that the flock could get used to each other. The two chickens were very happy, eating and drinking from the feeders immediately. Adrienne was weeding earlier and threw some fresh weeds in with them to scratch and peck at. The new birds are Dark Brahmas.
